Electronic cigarettes in Colombia
In Colombia, the General Director of the National Cancer Institute (INC) Carlos Vicente Rada Escobar made a statement related to the electronic cigarette. He quoted the study made by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) which points out that the electronic cigarette contains nitrosamines, substances formed by nitrate. With this study, the electronic cigarettes are now in the public eye of Colombia.
For his part, Carlos Cure Lemaitre, spokesman for the marketers of electronic cigarettes, explained how the smoking alternative device works and that is not marketed as a stop smoking device, but as a healthier way.
However, Carlos Cure noted that in the liquid cartridge, there are four types of nitrosamines, of which only one has no carcinogenic properties. He said that tests with these devices have shown that the latter is the only one that remains in the vapor that is inhaled by the smoker, while the other three are apparently attached to the resistance, as waste. “However, these substances are at levels 28,000 times lower than those found in the snuff,” he stressed.
As for the recommendations to be considered by people who think of the electronic cigarette as an option to combat smoking, the spokesman for the traders revealed that their consumption is not recommended for pregnant women or nursing, as well as people with cardiovascular problems, because nicotine acts as stimulant for this system.
“Also, people who suffer from diabetes, and must inject insulin, your treatment could be affected, since nicotine blocks the effect of insulin in the body,” said Carlos Cure.
