Argentina advises the public not to use electronic cigarettes
The National Drugs, Food and Medical Technology (ANMAT) of Argentina advised the public not to use electronic cigarettes which are offered as substitutes for smoking cessation.
In a note through the website of the Ministry of Health of the Nation, ANMAT said e-cigarette smoking devices have not so far submitted scientific evidence of its efficacy and safety,
The statement said the ANMAT evaluated the characteristics of the smoking cessation that simulate cigarette cartridges which may contain up to 24 milligrams of nicotine and other chemicals known.
The agency warned that while being promoted as healthy alternatives to quitting, electronic cigarettes have never been subjected to clinical trials to demonstrate its benefits over risks.
However, the agency pointed out that “has shown that nicotine is a carcinogen and is addictive action”, thus replacing a snuff for an e-cigarette avoids the risks to health.
In Argentina, 110 people die every day victims of smoking and the eight million existing smokers, half want to quit smoking, said ANMAT itself.
