As the FDA continues campaigning against e-cigarettes, more hospitals are allowing their use in their facilities. In Fredericksburg, Texas, and in Tampa, Florida, hospitals have made the decision to consent to the use of e-cigarettes anywhere on their grounds.
While e-cigarettes are still working on public acceptance, they are definitely on their way. The acceptance of e-cigarettes in hospitals is just one more step towards its general use. And even doctors are already putting e-cigarettes as an alternative to smoking tobacco cigs.
Take for example Dr. Michael Siegel at the Boston University School of Public Health. He created a group to monitor the FDA’s Tobacco Products Scientific Advisory Committee and also provide alternative recommendations to advise the FDA on matters related to the regulation of tobacco products.
He said: “This is about as idiotic and irrational an approach as I have ever seen in my 22 years in tobacco control and public health. A public policy maker who touts himself as being a champion of the public’s health as well as some of the leading national health advocacy organizations is demanding that we ban what is clearly a much safer cigarette than those on the market, but that we allow, protect, approve and institutionalize the really toxic ones.”
The use e-cigarettes instead of regular tobacco cigarettes is a right and privilege everyone should have. It’s a recreational device just like cigarettes and coffee. Would you say caffeine is a drug? How far can the FDA go giving e-cigarettes a bad reputation? E-cigarettes have not been proven to cause any of the type of health issues usually related with tobacco.
While it’s still far away for e-cigarettes to become completely accepted into society, they are on their way. As there use becomes wide spread, like in hospitals, you can definitely expect for e-cigarettes to become mainstream in a near future.
